CHAPTER HISTORY

Xi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,  Incorporated® shall cultivate high scholastic achievement, ethical standards, and personal development while supporting family unity and implementing effective programs that positively impact the communities we serve. Xi Delta Omega's vision is to be a recognized sisterhood determined to positively impact the community through dedicated service. 

Remembering their vows of "Service to all Mankind," sorority members Cynthia Laurie and Mildred Stansbury initiated the inquiry to the international office of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® to establish a graduate chapter in Harford and Cecil counties of Maryland.

The Northern Maryland Interest Group began establishing a graduate chapter in the mid-1970s. Given the group's geographical location and the Aberdeen and Edgewood Proving Grounds, along with the Harford and Cecil County Public School Systems, the area became the primary source for locating other sorority members. However, the transient lifestyle of the military was a significant challenge in maintaining a steady fifteen members, as was the requirement. In the early 80s, with a stable membership base of nineteen, the Northern Maryland Interest Group was positioned to become a chapter. On April 24, 1982, under the leadership of the North Atlantic Regional Director Nellie W. Gaylord, Xi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was chartered with the following members:
